RECIPE :: chocolate spread

After being frustrated by the lack of vegan chocolate spreads I thought I’d make my own and discovered that liquidized dates don’t really add to much flavour to the mixture, but give it some natural sweetness, so if you’re diabetic then the sugar can be omitted without too much of an impact.

Ingredients
200ml of water,
½ tsp almond essence,
25g / 1oz of gram flour,
5tbs of cocoa powder,
3tbs of castor sugar,
100g / 3½oz of dates (roughly chopped) and
150g / 5½oz of ground hazelnuts.

Method
1) Blend the water, almond essence, gram flour, cocoa powder and castor sugar together.
2) Place the above liquid and the dates into a blender and whiz away until smooth.
3) Now combine the datey liquid with the hazelnuts and mix well.

Experimental point

If you prefer walnuts or any other nut then use them instead of the hazelnuts.
