why I decided to write a book
When I was young I used to look up to my Nan as she would make some wonderful cakes and meals for my family to eat on Sunday afternoon. Me and my sister, Faye, would always help when we could, but mainly my Nan would tell me off for playing with the food and eating bits before and after they were cooked and, of course, me and my sister fighting over who gets the spoon and who gets the bowl to lick.
When I was old enough I would make cakes and pastry things at home for family and friends with my mother getting somewhat irritated by my messy work. To be fair, the kitchen was always a mess and when my mother stopped me using the kitchen she was fully justified, but it has yet to teach me to clean the kitchen very well at my own home.
At the age of 18, I turned vegan and wow, the variety of my cooking shot up and I started falling in love with vegetables which up until then I would try to avoid. I discovered such magical foods as tofu and tempeh which I adore and learned many new styles of food preparation. I started collecting cook books to learn more and more about food and would spend hours preparing meals for friends that now end up being two days preparation for each four course meal I do.
At 23 I discovered that I was gluten intolerant and again after worrying about the reduction in food stuff that I could no longer use, I discovered more things I could use, such as hemp flour, polenta etc.
After 4 years of toying with the idea of writing a book I finally decided to start and here it is. I hope you enjoy using the recipes in this book and more importantly I hope you will feel inspired to invent your own.
As my last message to you I would suggest that every couple of weeks you go out and buy something you’ve never tried before and play with it, you’ll be surprised at what you can achieve. |
